On Wednesday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin spoke of the benefits of a more balanced economic relationship between the U.S. and China, during the U.S.-China Comprehensive Economic Dialog: SEC. STEVEN MNUCHIN: With the economic dialog, my hope is that we can increase our focus on concrete, and targeted commitments, to address both short term and long term strategic challenges. As the world's two largest economies, and the major drivers of global growth, The United States and China have strong, overlapping interests. We need to work together to maximize the benefit for both sides. But, this is only possible if there is a more fair and balanced economic relationship between the United States and China. This means providing access for American firms in China, as we provide access for Chinese firms in the United States. It means addressing the challenges caused by the Chinese intervention in its economy as well as addressing the impact of industrial, agricultural, technological and cyber policies. It means holding the U.S. and China to a high standard of communicating new and revised policies and regulations, so that government and individuals worldwide can better tailor their policies and investment decisions.
